Application Process

APPLYING for a dog dose not mean you will have it tomorrow!

1. Candidate must agree and meet the conditions set forth by Colorado Service Dogs,Inc.
in regards to service dog ownership.

2. The candidate contacts Colorado Service Dogs, Inc.

3. Colorado Service Dogs, Inc. provides information about the program, answers any questions.

4. The candidate fills out the following application and supporting documentation and returns it us.

Complete applications consist of the following documents:

if the child is under 18 A letter from the parents showing
they agree with and support the decision to get a dog.

5. The in person interview, which is between 1-2 hours in length, is usually held in the applicant's home with one or two representatives of Colorado Service Dogs, Inc. and a organization dog or dogs.

A 24 hour cancellation notice is required to be given to Colorado Service if appointment can not be kept. If no notification is given, the full amount due for interview and mileage will still be required.

6. At the point when a contract is to be signed, CAPS will be discussed (if it has not been previously). Colorado Service Dogs, Inc will attempt to be flexible in working with the recipient.

7. Each recipient is responsible for the full amount quoted by Colorado Service Dogs. That is the cost to train and place a Service Dog with a candidate with a disability. Colorado Service Dogs, Inc. will provide fund raising or sponsorship ideas to raise money for the fee. Please contact us in regards to these opportunities.

8. Finally, a meeting will be held, this meeting will give families the opportunity to prepare themselves for the next stages in the process. Final acceptance is determined following this interview, and the search for an ideal dog begins!

As an average, putting in an hour or so every day, doing the assignments, it could take as little as six months, some have taken 18 months, others over 2 years.

FINDING the right dog for you is an important process and you should expect the process to take some time.



All money donated to Colorado Service Dogs, Inc.
is applied to the general fund.
