Take A Paws and Read

Take A Paws and Read, Reading Dog Program

Take A Paws and Read is part of the Colorado Service Dogs Canines For Comfort Therapy Dog Program,
where therapy dogs help children struggling to improve their reading and communication skills.
We partner with local library and school programs to bring the program into local communities.
For children with poor reading capabilities, reading aloud to a group can be intimidating.
Take a Paws and Read dogs serve as reading tutors, assisting children with their quiet presence
and helping them develop a love of reading in a judgment-free environment.
Since its inception in early 2010, Colorado Service Dogs Therapy Dogs have provided
Take a Paws and Read services to many children throughout Colorado.

Take a Paws and Read Teams
Each Take a Paws and Read Team is a Canine For Comfort Therapy team,
who have completed a minimum of 12 hours of comprehensive training with our Director of Training.
Following successful certification as a Canine for Comfort Therapy team, a Take a Paws and Read team
shadows a current team under the direction of our Canines for Comfort Program Coordinator.
